AMG Advanced Metallurgical Group N.V.

The Engineering Systems Division designs, engineers and produces advanced vacuum furnace systems and operates vacuum heat treatment facilities. AMG is a global leader in supplying technologically-advanced vacuum furnace systems to customers in the aerospace, energy (including solar and nuclear), transportation, electronics, superalloys and specialty steel industries. Examples of furnace systems produced by AMG include vacuum remelting, solar silicon melting and crystallization, vacuum induction melting, vacuum heat treatment and high pressure gas quenching, vacuum precision casting, turbine blade coating and sintering. AMG also provides vacuum case-hardening heat treatment services on a tolling basis to customers through facilities equipped with vacuum heat treatment furnaces.

AMG’s vacuum furnace systems are integral in the advancement of product technology in high growth industries, such as aerospace and solar energy.  In aerospace, AMG is a world leader in the production of vacuum furnaces for titanium production, which is critical in the design of new lightweight planes for greater fuel efficiency.  AMG is also the global leader in e-beam vacuum furnaces for coating turbine blades, which enable the turbine blades to withstand the heat of the engine.  In solar energy, AMG’s silicon melting and crystallisation furnaces provide customers with high-purity polysilicon solar wafers that deliver some of the highest sunlight-to-energy conversion ratios in the industry.

The Engineering Systems division’s furnace systems include:

  • Vacuum remelting
  • Turbine blade coating
  • Sintering
  • Precision casting
  • Solar silicon melting and crystallisation
  • Induction melting
  • Vacuum case-hardening heat treatment
  • Plasma carburising

About AMG's Own & Operate Facilities
The Engineering Systems division also provides vacuum case-hardening heat treatment services on a fee-per-part, or tolling, basis to customers through facilities it owns, which are equipped with AMG-designed vacuum heat treatment furnaces. AMG currently has three such Own & Operate facilities. These facilities serve the European and North American heat-treatment markets; through these facilities, AMG provides vacuum casehardening and high-pressure gas quenching services to the transportation, aerospace and tooling industries. AMG owns and operates internally-produced equipment at these facilities. In addition to furnaces it has designed and produced, AMG also owns and operates third-party tempering, cleaning and laboratory equipment used to provide contract services to its customers.
