AMG produces antimony trioxide from base forms of antimony metal. Antimony trioxide is primarily used as a flame retardant additive in rubber, textiles and plastics. It has been a key component in the growth of the use of plastics - all polymers - wherever protection against fire is needed, for the safety of people and installations, such as in infrastructure, electronics and transportation. Antimony trioxide is also used as an opacifying agent for glasses, ceramics and enamels, a catalyst in the production of polyethylene terephthalate (PET plastic) and the vulcanization of rubber.
